NASTAR gives your mountain a complete recreational racing program connected to a national community of racers. Your staff runs the local races. NASTAR provides the timing software, handicapping system, racer records and program resources that make each run part of something racers can follow throughout the season and from mountain to mountain.
Founded in 1968, NASTAR has introduced generations of recreational skiers to racing. Today's program combines that familiar name with online results, rankings and achievements that give guests reasons to return to the course.

A race experience that stays with your guests
A timed run gives a skier a result for the day. A NASTAR handicap gives that result a common reference, so racers can track their progress and compare performances across different courses. Racers compete within age and ability groups, follow friends and family, and work toward their next medal or achievement.
Each participant's NASTAR record brings together race results, season history, rankings and badges. Resort, state and national leaderboards give local racing a wider context. The record stays with the racer when they visit another NASTAR mountain or return next season. Explore NASTAR rankings.
What NASTAR provides
Run the race
Every program includes the NASTAR Timing Solution, our timing and race-management software. It connects the local race operation to NASTAR.com, retrieves racer information and submits race results for processing into NASTAR records. The software handles scoring and handicap calculations using your course's pacesetting information. The system also supports individual and team scoring for local race series.
Your staff can also use the software to publish upcoming events and offer live results through Live-Timing.com. Live results and official NASTAR results are separate: staff must submit results for processing into the official record.
Manage the program
Your designated NASTAR Manager receives Resort Manager access on skiracing.nastar.com. Managers can update public program information and operating times, download software, order materials and medals, and review or correct uploaded race results. They can also manage additional staff access.
NASTAR provides software installation and operating support. Your manager works directly with NASTAR on program setup, pacesetter questions and issues during the season.
Register participants
NASTAR provides printed registration forms as needed. NASTAR also provides helmet-number stickers and a registration-form PDF that can be printed locally. Paper registration forms and helmet numbers can also be ordered through the manager tools at no charge.
Online event registration is included with your program. Resorts may use it to make pre-race registration and electronic waiver completion easy for racers through NASTAR.com. Your race operation retrieves those registrations through the timing software. Publishing upcoming events and offering online event registration are optional. Your staff remains responsible for ensuring that participants complete the required registration and waivers before racing.
Equip the course
Regular and Small Resort programs include a supply-point allowance. Managers choose from the available NASTAR catalog, which includes gate panels, race gates, banners, signage, pacesetter bibs and selected timing equipment. Availability and point values are shown in the ordering system. The allowance lets you choose items your operation needs; it is not a complete course or timing installation.
Recognize racers
NASTAR medals recognize a racer's performance in their age group. Custom medals carry your resort's name or approved logo, giving guests a keepsake from the mountain where they earned it. Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Racer/Participant medals are available.
Medals are purchased separately from NASTAR, with a minimum order of 100 medals total across medal types. Custom orders are processed twice a year and take approximately five weeks. Confirm the next order window with NASTAR before planning delivery. Online badges and achievements add another way for racers to follow their participation and accomplishments.
Choose a resort program
| Program | Fee | Supply points |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Resort | $3,600 | 100 |
| Small Resort | $2,400 | 50 |
The Regular Resort Program is intended for larger resort operations. Small Resort pricing makes NASTAR accessible to smaller mountains and lower-volume programs. Both include the Timing Solution and Resort Manager tools. Contact us to determine the appropriate level for your mountain.
Your resort sets its race-entry prices and retains all entry fees. Medals are a separate purchase. Staffing, equipment beyond the supplied resources and local operating costs remain the resort's responsibility.
What your resort provides
A successful program needs someone at the mountain who will take responsibility for it. Your resort provides suitable terrain, course setup and maintenance, electronic timing equipment, a compatible Windows computer, internet access for online functions, and staff to register guests and run the races. The program agreement specifies equipment, waiver, safety and insurance requirements.
Local pacesetters are fundamental to NASTAR. A pacesetter with an established handicap skis the course to set its Par Time, the reference used to calculate participants' handicaps. Your resort needs consistent, capable pacesetters who can check the course as conditions change. If you are starting without an established pacesetter, contact NASTAR to arrange the initial handicapping process.

Prepare before the season
We strongly recommend having your program set up by October 15, including submitting your medal order in the appropriate seasonal order window. This is preseason planning guidance, not a mandatory joining deadline. Custom medal production takes time, so contact us early to confirm the schedule.
Before opening, designate your manager, complete the program agreement, review your equipment and pacesetting needs, install the software and prepare your registration process. Allow time for staff to become familiar with the system. Confirm supply availability and delivery timing with NASTAR.
