Race with your family or put a team together with friends from your resort or new friends that you meet during the event. The race is open to all interested participants and each team member is handicapped by age, gender and discipline. If your mom, dad, wife, husband, grandma or grandpa are going to the Nationals with you, this is your chance to race with them. If you are with a group of friends or a club, put together a Friends Team. No qualification is required but participants must be registered NASTAR racers.
Entries are $20 per person and registration for the team races closes Tuesday, March 24th at 6pm.
Team Types
Family Teams: Teams will be grouped into three categories. Two person teams, three person teams and four or more person family teams. The four or more family teams will be scored based on the four family members that score the most team points. There is no maximum number of family members that can participate but there must be a direct family relationship.
Friends Team: The Friends Team Race will be scored using the four highest point gainers from each team with a maximum of eight team members. There are four divisions within the Friends Team race. Teams will be placed in a division based on their team score. Teams that score Platinum medal team points will be placed in the Platinum Division. Teams that score Gold medal team points will be placed in the Gold Division. Teams that score Silver medal team points will be placed in the Silver Division and teams that score Bronze medals team points will be placed in the Bronze Division.
Registration for the Team Races should be completed during registration for the main event. If you did not register for a Team Race during the registration process, you can Register Here.
Seeding
Family Teams will be seeded by the size of the team and the date of entry. The first two person family team to register will race first followed by the next two person team that registers, etc. The first three person family team to register will race first after the two person family teams. The first four person family team to register will race first in the four or more family member team race and the last group to register will race last.
Friends teams will be seeded by the date of registration. The first teams to register will race first. Each team will take two runs and teams will race head to head. Teams will be placed in a division based on their team's performance. Each team's medal point average during the race will place them in the Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze team division.
Friends Teams will have the opportunity to add a U.S. Ski Team member or alumni pacesetter to their team.
Scoring
The Team Races are scored using NASTAR Team Points. This levels the playing field for all team members.
FAMLY TEAM: Family Teams will be scored by team points divided by the number of family members. Two person family teams will be scored by adding the team points of the two team members and dividing by two. Three person family teams will be scored by adding the team points of the three team members and dividing by three. The four plus Family Teams will be scored based on the four team members that score the most team points and dividing the score by four. The number of team points earned by each team member are added and divided by the number of members on the team (two, three or four best scores. A perfect team score would be 10 points.
FRIENDS TEAM: The top FOUR point gainers from each Friends Team will be used to score points for their team. The number of team points earned by these top point gainers are added together and divided by four to get the final Team Score.
Each team member scores points for their team using their handicap earned. The NASTAR Handicap Chart shows the handicap needed to score team points within each age and gender group. The number of team points indicated on the chart is a range. Since team points are interpolated, the exact number of team points earned will be within this range. The exact number of team points scored for your team will be indicated on the result sheets which will be posted and available online. In the event of a tie, one addition team member will be added to the score to break the tie. This process continues until the tie is broken.
Calculating Team Points is a process of interpolation. You can see details on this calculation here.
Awards
Awards will be presented in the finish area following the race. Awards will be presented to the top three Family Teams in each division (2 person family teams, 3 person family teams and 4 or more person family teams).
The top three Friends Teams in each division will be presented awards. First, second and third place plaques will be presented to the top three teams in each division: Platinum, Gold, Silver & Bronze.
