The NASTAR Nationals Road Map

Packing up a suitcase before a big trip can be the most stressful step to any good vacation. Sometimes, that anxiety can amplify before a big ski race, but rest assured, the staff at both NASTAR and Steamboat Springs, Colo., have been hard at work to promise that when you show up to Nationals, you’ll be more than happy that you packed up those bags.
If you qualified and have yet to register for Nationals, you can do so here.
For starters, this year racers will receive a competitor gift bag that includes a Liberty Mutual Insurance NASTAR Nationals backpack, a ski tuning apron, a participation pin and a Buff neck gaiter donated by Steamboat Springs Resort. The swag list continues if you find yourself on top of the podium this year! Racers who place first, second or third will be given a gold, silver or bronze medallion along with a Swix gift set. The Swix gift sets vary in value dependent upon placing, but the first-place winner receives a Deluxe Swix Wax and Tuning Kit valued at $85..
If you’re worried about ticket prices for yourself or friends and family who are not racing, NASTAR has partnered with Steamboat Springs to offer discounted lift tickets for competitors and guests with “guest credentials”. It’s recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance. For adult competitors and guests, daily lift tickets are $55; with the purchase of a four-day ticket, participants get the fifth day free. On top of this, kids 12 and under receive a complimentary five-day lift ticket when a parent purchases a five-day lift ticket for the event.
If you’re hoping to find a loophole to prevent having to pay for lift tickets, Steamboat Springs is still looking for volunteers to help with the courses each day. Volunteers will get a lift ticket for any day that they sign up to help out. On top of that, for every seven hours worked, you can earn a voucher good for a free ticket through the end of the 2018 season (these are also fully transferrable). Additionally, you may use the vouchers before you work. So if you’re working, but your spouse is with you, then they could ski the same day that you’re working. For more information on volunteering and to sign up, click here.
If you haven’t already booked your lodging for Nationals, Steamboat is offering 20% discounted rooms with a three-day-minimum stay. The last day to book is March 26 and you can find details here.
If you’ve been to NASTAR Nationals in the past, you know how the racing format is set up. But if you’re new to the whole shebang, you can read more about the competition format here.
If you’re curious about where you will be racing, Steamboat has put together a map of the course runs that highlight where each age and division will be competing. You can view that here.
The 2017 NASTAR National Championship is a festival that brings together the best NASTAR racers in the nation to compete in a fun and happening environment. It’s more than just a competition! Partnered with Steamboat Springs Resort, NASTAR has has planned an exciting week of activities for you, your family and friends. From live music to autograph signings by NASTAR Pacesetters including U.S. Ski Team alumni AJ Kitt, Casey Puckett and Marco Sullivan. Even Ted Ligety will be there signing autographs.
