The Event

Participants will compete within their age and ability group on Saturday. The top three racers in each division will win awards and qualify for the Liberty Mutual Insurance NASTAR National Championships at Squaw Valley, CA. Each age group will be divided into two ability divisions based on the best handicap earned during the race. Participants will take two runs and racers that earn handicaps in the platinum or gold medal range will be placed in the Platinum/Gold division. Racers that earn a silver or bronze level handicap will be placed in the Silver/Bronze division.

The winner of each age group, division and discipline are invited to compete in the Race of Champions on Sunday. The ladies will race first with the highest handicaps starting at the beginning and racers with the lowest handicaps racing last. The person standing on the top of the podium with the fastest discounted time when the last racer crosses the finish is the overall winner. Awards are presented immediately in the finish area. The men's race starts as soon as the ladies awards are completed with young and old, experienced and novice racers all competing to be the Overall Eastern Champion.

The Race of Champions

Racers that win their age and ability group on Saturday will be invited to compete for the overall win in the Race of Champions on Sunday. The Race of Champions is a handicapped race so young and old can compete on a level playing field.

Men and women compete separately but all racers carry their handicap into the final race where their time is discounted using their handicap. The first racer down the course climbs on top of the podium and each successive racer tries to knock them off the top step with a faster discounted time. The fastest competitors race last and the person standing on top of the podium at the end of the race is the overall winner. Awards are also presented to the racers with the fastest raw times.

Team Races

How we score teams

Awards will be presented immediately following the race.

The Team Races on Sunday are designed for families to compete together as a team or for a group of friends to compete together. We encourage participants to meet new friends during the event and form Friends Teams. There will be separate races for family teams and teams of friends and awards will be present to two ability groups. Teams that score points that place them in the Platinum & Gold division will compete and teams that score Silver & Bronze NASTAR Team Points will be grouped together. Teams will race their way into a division based on the numbers of team points scored by the team. Teams can have up to six people but only three racers will be used to score points for each team. NASTAR Team Points will be used to score teams so that age and gender can be used to handicap racers.
