Race of Champions

We have changed the format of the final event at the Regional Championship. The Race of Champions (RoC) will be a dual, head-to-head, elimination race that will award prize money to the final four women and the final four men.

The top 32 male and 32 female racers that score the most NASTAR Team Points during the Championship Races will qualify for the final, Race of Champions. Team points are scored within each racer’s age and gender group. This provides younger and older racers with an opportunity to win the event using their handicap.

Competitors are put into elimination brackets and they are seeded by their Team Points. Each racer’s handicap is carried into the race and the doors of the Pro Race style start gates open independently based on the racers’ handicaps. For example, the differential between a racer (A) with a 20 handicap and a racer (B) with a 5 handicap would be 15%. Racer (A’s) start gate would open 15% before the start gate for racer (B) opens. The two competitors race to the finish line and the first competitor to cross the finish line wins and moves on to the next level of the bracket. All races are single elimination and the competitor that scored the most Team Points during qualifying gets priority to select their course.  The final four competitors are awarded prize money.

Team Races

The Team Races on Sunday are designed for families to compete together as a team or for groups of friends to compete together as a team. We encourage participants to meet new friends during the event and form Friends Teams. There will be separate races for family teams and teams of friends.

Family teams and Friends teams will be divided into two ability groups. Teams that score Platinum/Gold NASTAR Team Points will compete and teams that score Silver/Bronze NASTAR Team Points will be grouped together. Teams will race their way into a division based on the numbers of team points scored by the team.

Family teams require a minimum of three team members that have a direct family connection. Friends teams can have up to six people but only four racers will be used to score points for the team. NASTAR Team Points are used to score teams so that age and gender can be used to handicap racers.
